Chicago

Staying in Suite Home Chicago part of Grand Plaza, by Grand station.  Apartments are very nice.  It has a great gym, outdoor pool, basketball court. resistance pool, jacuzzi, steam room, suana and even an outdoor running track!Restaurants:

Gino's East - This is one of the original Chicago Pan pizzerias, they are more like pies though.  Very different ot the usual pizza, more of an inverted pizza as the tomato sauce in on the top and the cheese on the base.  The service was not bad but they messed up the order and then overcharged but couldn't be bothered to argue.  The place is unique with notes from customers all over the walls etc.  The cost for 2 soft drinks, buffalo wings ($9) to start and then a large pizza ($35) was US$60 including service and tax.  The pizza was far too much for us we managed 4 slices then gave the remaining 4 to a homeless person on the way home.  Worth goign once but won't be returning.

Frontera Grill:We had been recommended this place by everyone and also in the Lonely Planet it is meant to be one of the top 3 casual dining restaurants in the world.  It was fully booked however we chanced it and managed to get a table on walk in. There is a fine dining sister restaurant Topolobampo in the same building however this is double the price.  We started with Margaritas which were good, then had a starter of the Trio, Trio, Trio ($17) a selection of Ceviches which was pretty good but not much of it.  Also some beef dish also good but not the American sizes we were expecting.  For mains we went with the special of the day which was goat meat on a crspy base ($24) and then goats meat in 3 tortilla like rolls with black bean sauce ($18).  The first dish was ok very similar to the beef starter we had which is where we went wrong, however fran liked it. The second dish I liked but choosing 2 goats meat dishes was an error.  Fran had the spiciest salsa sauce and paid the price!  Hahaha!  We managed to finish it all then had a Brazilian Mocha for coffee which was awesome.  Overall a good night out I wouldn't rate it as one fo the best in the world however that may have been down to our food choices.  Total cost $120 inc everything so not cheap......imagine what Topolobampa would cost!Tonight Blackhawks vs. Calgary

  • Best place to watch sport the Sporting House in New York New York, then LaGasse in the Palazzo, followed by any sports bar in the casinos.  The Crown and Anchor is the best place for UK sport however it was rammed when we tried to go.
Taxis are a rip off and try to con you more.  Get a Limo for $50 for almost wherever you want to go.  Or get the $7 unlimited Bus travel over 24hrs. This is the best way of getting around once you know the stops
